In the wake of rapidly spreading COVID-19 epidemic, numerous companies have pledged to devote themselves to manufacturing utilities and paraphernalia that would help deal with the critical situation worldwide. In light of the same, notable automobile manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has declared that it plans to have its resources dedicated to manufacturing face masks for the first responders.
As per sources familiar with the knowledge of the matter, the company plans to manufacture close to a staggering one million face masks on a monthly basis. The automaker will apparently be donating these masks to firefighters, health care clinics, hospitals, police officers, EMTs, and other first responders, spanning the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Reports claim that currently, the company is on its way to installing the manufacturing capability to produce these masks, though no locations have been clarified yet. Neither has the firm mentioned any particular time duration as to when these masks will be manufactured and delivered, except for claiming that the process is likely to hit ground in the following weeks.
The declaration claims North America to be the highlight for this program, however, FCA has claimed that this is the debut action of a global multi-faceted program that will help deal with the COVID-19 outbreak.
Mike Manley, CEO, FCA, has been quoted saying that granting protection to first responders and medical care professionals, in the current scenario, is more important than ever. Apart from its contribution in increasing the production of ventilators, the company conducted an analysis across the healthcare industry, and then came to a conclusion that the need for face masks in critical at the moment, Manley claims. He further added that FCA has mobilized its resources to concentrate presently on installing the manufacturing capacity for producing these masks , thereby supporting the ones that are on the front line of this pandemic.
It has been speculated that once the production of these masks in underway, the distribution will start across the critical areas in North America, as determined via extensive coordination with the city, regional, and national authorized bodies.
